Great Green Cleaning for Shower Soap Scum

Great Green Cleaning for Shower Soap Scum

There are tons of cleaners on the market today that boast quick and effortless ways to clean, but have you ever wondered how those cleaners are able to be so effortless and quick? It is because most commercial cleaning products are filled with chemicals, which are pretty toxic not only to humans, but pets and our environment as well. Did you know you can get the same type of clean, if not better by using natural or “green” cleaning products and a little elbow grease? Let’s be honest you will have to put a little effort in when you use “green” cleaners because they aren’t filled with metal eating chemicals that could strip a car of its paint in 30 seconds.

One of my favorite products to use when cleaning is vinegar and lemon essential oil. These two items are the universal cleaners and germ fighters on the “green” cleaning list. Grab a spray bottle, 1 ½ cups of vinegar, ½ cup of natural dish soap (Honest Company, Seventh Generation and Dr. Brommers makes great ones) and a bottle of lemon essential oil. Mix your dish soap and vinegar in your spray bottle and add a few drops of your oil, give it a shake and you are ready to get rid of that soap scum. The good thing about this cleaner is you can use it on more than just your tub, use it on the sink, the toilet, the kitchen counters even. When you use “green” cleaning products you don’t have to have 5 different bottles laying around, you only need 1 or 2 at most.

If you are not the DIY type, there are some good green cleaners on the market — but watch out for “green-washing“, that’s when a company sells you a chemical product under the guise of “green”. As society begins to be more aware of our impact on the environment and the impact chemicals have on our bodies I believe you will see a rise in the “natural” and “green” companies.
