Pets have so many benefits for humans, – they are companions, provide a sort of therapy, and of course — unconditional love. But what about all that pet hair that seems to collect throughout the house no matter how many times you vacuum? Unless you have a breed of pet that does not have fur or doesn’t shed, then you have experienced the curse of pet hair at some point in your pet-filled life. Pet hair can be quite a pain to deal with. Pet fur seems to stick to everything, especially the furniture, but how can you limit the amount of pet hair throughout the house? Here are some helpful tips that you can try.
Have your pet washed and groomed regularly. A regular bath and brushing of the fur (outdoors) will help eliminate the excess fur that falls off your pet on a daily basis. While this will not eliminate the fur completely, it can help in cutting down on the amount.
If you are a dog owner, keep their fur cut short or shaved. By keeping the fur trimmed short you can help stop the amount of fur your dog sheds. Longer haired dogs tend to have their fur show up more on things like furniture over the shorter hair breeds.
Regular cleaning and vacuuming will help cut down on the amount of hair that floats around your home. Personal story – when I had two English Mastiff/German Shepherds I would have to vacuum twice a day in order to keep the hair manageable. Certain breeds of animals shed more than others.
If you are having a gathering, try keeping the pets in a room or outdoors (if it’s nice enough, weather wise), that way, once you clean up the hair, you won’t have to worry about it being in vain. Once your guests leave you can release the animals back into the rest of the house.
Most pet owners accept that pet hair is just a part of the joys of owning a pet and keeping them in the house. However, there are times when it can be a little too much to bare, like when you are having a dinner party, the last thing you want is your guests leaving covered in pet hair.
If you have not purchased a pet yet, now is the time to think about things like these. Can you handle a dog or cat that sheds? If not, consider picking a breed that will not shed. Most pet owners will agree that dealing with pet hair is a minimal problem compared to the joy they get from a fun & loving pet.
